Hope and some change...

This is one from when I first got into private practice in very rural Louisiana.  It happened a day or two after Obama got elected.  For the record, this is not an anti-Obama rant, just something that happened.

Me:  "What can I do for you today?"

Patient:  "I want to be taken off all my generic medications."

Me:  "Well, I can do that, but the cost will go up pretty dramatically."

Patient:  "It's ok, now that Obama is in office I'll be able to get them all for free and I only want the best."

She was serious.

i think if a person, even on medicaid, had to pay a small amount for any service, medical costs would go WAY down. i've had two ultrasounds recommended for this pregnancy. once because i was measuring large, and once because the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat (though i can with my borrowed doppler). if i had medicaid, i would probably have signed right up. since i would have had to pay 300-600 per ultrasound, i said thanks but no thanks....
