How to get me to stop calling in meds for you...

One of the major annoyances of being a doctor is that you are NEVER completely off-duty.  Friends, neighbors, and relatives will call you at odd hours asking for things and opinions.  It's part of the job, we get it and I usually don't mind.  Acting unappreciative is a really good way to get me to refuse in the future.

Friend:  "Can you call me in something.  I've had sinus symptoms for two weeks.  Low-grade fever, congestion, sore throat."

Me:  "Yeah, I'm a little busy right now, but I can probably call you something in later."

Friend:  "Can't you do it now?"

Me:  "I guess I can in a minute.  Can you send me a text with your date of birth and the pharmacy's number?"

Friend:  "It's the Walgreens on Main.  I don't have time to look it up, just look in your phone."

Me:  "Sorry, you're breaking up... *hang up*"

I didn't answer texts from them for two days.

I think you're a very nice friend, neighbor, and relative for writing scripts and giving opinions.

Your 'friend' deserved it!
